"Being Good"

Most often I have come across people (secularists, in particular) saying that "ultimately one has to be good" and that's what that matters more than being religious or anything. While the notion of being good is such a highly relative term, how can one have this as a basis to defend secularism and cultural unity ?

Okay, I admit there should be some basic sense for humanity in general, but then isn't it not logical to find out more about that basic sense to help the humanity survive even better ?

maybe the secularists mean this: if you are good, then you would not be intolerant to certain things in religion (any) or as you said, to culture.

everything is relative and subjective, not objective, good bad everything,
india is a diverse country, but still united, as nehru said 'unity in diversity' so aiming fo cultural unity is not possible.
secularists eednt be good and religious ppl neednt be bad!

Yeh...may be true. But any true religion should teach complete tolorence.

Yes...if we are talking about atheist secularists, then everything is relative to them. But for any theist the idea of good should be absolute and a true religious man (theoritically speaking)is just trying to find that 'goodness'. So, a theist secular man should embrace all religions as true than downplaying them. I think the latter view will be more constructive to India.
