Death.

Now, for some time the blast in London killing around 40 people is going to have its effects on media. While, there are going to be some noises and commotion, I feel a similar event in India (with similar toll) will be having comparatively lesser response from the Indian media. Is it because of the general attitude of the people towards the society or is it because of the running philosophy behind our culture that "death is just another state of existence" ? !

indians no i think because its a regular feature, almost every day an jawan dies, but is it covered? and its normal for aruond 100 ppl to die in a train accident, but certainly wont hog the limelite like the japanese train crash, largely cause we are used ot it.
but if 40 ppl die in a terrorist attack, itll certainly hog media limelite, even in india, politicians will use the opportunity to gain political milage, focus will shift from the injured to the politicians. terrorism will certainly hog limelite even in india!

I guess an Indian's life is not valued very much by the outside world. the death of 3 or 5 people in a richer western nation will attract more media attention.

Apart from fate, it is loong since we belived in ourselves, and said "I can change this". It is since the times when we were first enslaved.
for atleast 4-5 centuries now, we dont tend to chart our course, but follow what ppl had put for us.

If somebody throws terrorism on me, we will first either move away to avoid it, or if it hits us and hurts, we will accept it as reality and live with it. Going and stopping the guy who throws terrorism, is the last thing we think to do.

And thanx for visiting my blog and commenting.

Ofcourse NOT!! Firstly, anything that has to do with Indians would never make news in India. Especially if it was Muslims doing the killings, absolutely no way. Take a look at Teesta's statement about not calling the terrorists 'terrorists'. They are apparently 'freedom fighters' fighting the Holy war, out to rid the world of infidels.

Kaps: Indian lives are not valued in India. What then by others?

I think it's because Americans and the British are a bunch of big fat spoiled crybabies, and anytime a British person slips on a banana peel dropped on the sidewalk by a foreigner, it's a reason to write a hundred media articles, rethink foreign policy completely, and maybe launch a new war.

Hi, Came by from vatsan's naamam post! Quite an interesting set of articles, and even more so because of the special blog dedicated to Vedanta.

As for why Indian media doesn't give such coverage - i think it is because we Indians are much more capable of accepting facts and facing realities. Someone died - yes its a fact, we accept and we simply move on. Instead of trying to evoke sympathy, and make money out of every damn thing (yes that is changing now) ... but media too is a money spinning business, and it needs to touch the humans at the right spot to make money!!

The idea of death has been dealt with, in quite an interesting way in one of the chapters of the book on electronic civil disobedience:-

The book itself can be found here:-

Though a complete stranger to you people, stumbling upon this blog made be remember about it (the book) ... thought some of you might find it interesting.
